SOCIALLY ENGAGED ART SALON (SEAS)

SEAS is home to the Brighton branch of the Social Art Network, a UK based community of artists committed to building agency for the field of art and social practice. As part of the network, SEAS hosts monthly free artists development meet-ups where social artists have the opportunity to share their work, make connections and discuss social and political issues in the visual arts sector.

For 2020 and 2021, the Seas Brighton Social artist network events aim to explore topics relating to decolonization, anti-racism and inclusion in social art. We aim to hold supportive spaces for important discussions on how to embed anti-racist practices on a local and wide-scale in the arts. These sessions are facilitated by interdisciplinary artist and cultural activist Susuana Amoah, collaboration with a rich variety of Brighton-based and international social artists and creatives. The SEAS Social Art Network sessions are supported by funding from Arts Council England.

SEAS/SAN programme is curated by Susuana Amoah.

Susuana is a London-born, Brighton-based cultural activist and interdisciplinary artist. She is very passionate about socially-engaged art, fugitive feminism and exploring creative ways of highlighting narratives and social movements by marginalised groups. Susuana is also currently a PhD researcher at Goldsmiths, the University of London where she is exploring decolonial curatorial practices in contemporary art galleries.
