In answer to the needs expressed by artists during the Covid19 pandemic, Black Life Matter demos and our recent Refugee Week exhibition the Socially Engaged Art Salon (SEAS) and Dr. Sara Alsaraf invite you to join a creative and therapeutic programme of workshops catering for migrants/ refugees/ asylum seekers/ BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ artists.
The programme will be free of charge but it is limited to 12 participants. Please apply by September 15th if you are interested in participating. Please see further details below.
The programme will invite participants to express themselves verbally and non-verbally through art, music, movement and other creative ways in relation to issues they that they feel have been affecting their well being.
The session will be every week or every two weeks and will last 90 minutes. They will a break and free and snacks will be provided.
The participants will be also invited to create artworks based on these art therapy sessions for an exhibition and a publication planned for early 2022.
The programme will run by Dr Sara Alsaraf is a psychiatrist and creative arts therapist. She works with marginalised individuals and communities, facilitating creative healing spaces. She is also a researcher interested in co-producing services with people who have lived experience of migration and marginalisation. The project is open to migrants/ refugees/ asylum seekers/ BIPOC / artists with disabilities and LGBTQIA+. We will also accept non-professional artists and those who are interested in engaging with the visual and performing arts.
Participants should be based in Brighton &Hove / East Sussex.
Candidates must be 18+ years old.
Pending funding the the programme will start in mid September and will take place at SEAS's Studio at the BMECP, 10/a Fleet St., Brighton, BN1 4ZE
Dates and place for future sessions will be decided collaboratively during these sessions.

Don't worry if your written or spoken English is below average - spelling and grammar mistakes don't frighten us - as long as we can see that you are really interested in exploring this opportunity.
We also accept emails from 3rd parties such as charities or individuals that work with artists that are potentially suited for this programme but for whatever reason cannot submit the show of interest themselves.
